String Revolution:  New technology has revolutionized tennis strings. Strings have more spin and control . Here are some of the advantages of the second and third generation polyester strings:
take bigger cuts at the ball without losing control;
whip the ball with more topspin which keeps the ball in play.
Many players like to use a hybrid string. Hybrid strings feature durable polyester string in the main or vertical strings and a softer multifilament string in the cross strings. We find that using two different strings result in the strings 'sticking' to each other so that they don't move as much resulting in more spin on your shots.  For instance, Andy Roddick uses Pro Hurrican Tour 16 in the main strings and  VS Team 16 (gut) in the cross stings. Roger Federer likes to reverse this and use the gut in the main strings for more 'pop'. He will use Wilson Natural Gut 16 in the main strings and Luxilon Alu Power Rough 16L in the cross strings.
Preventive Maintenance:
Keeping your racket in the trunk of a car is not a good idea. The heat and humidity in the car will cause the resin in the string molecules to break down resulting in poor performance. Also, ultraviolet rays from exposure to sunlight can damage the strings. So, please choose your string carefully and be sure to keep your rackets in a cool environment.interesting web site on tennis strings:  Tennis String Forum
