Travares Campbell came on the Tennis League scene
in the Summer of 2005. His first match was with Jamar Wright from
Jamaica, a 6-4,6-4 loss. Jamar had an unbelievable topspin backhand.
Travares had a solid forehand but didn't have much topspin on his
backhand. Mr. T went on a 14-match winning streak beating such notable
players as Paul Newman twice, Nelson Medina, Dennis Oliveira, Frank
Smith, Rene Tazioli, and Corey Fein. Travares met T.J. Urhobo in the Top
Gun Final but lost 6-2,6-3. Even though the score was not close, Mr. T
had established himself as a player to be reckoned with. However, the
league got tougher and players were inspired to improve. Travares would
soon suffer consecutive losses. Mr. T suffered a loss in three sets to
Paul Newman in December, 2005. Then, Travares had a straight-set
loss to Rafael Jaimes in early January, 2006. Injuries plagued Mr. T and
he would be missing in action for the next three years.
In the middle of 2009, Mr. T returned to the
Tennis League. This time he had added a topspin backhand to his arsenal.
Travares knocked off ten players in a row. He defeated such notable
players as Juan Hernandez twice, Eduardo Noriega, Christian Leal, Amit
Ramani, Roberto Manzueta, Leandro Ramirez, Alvaro Vasquez, Chadd Deo,
and Owen Hass. Travares had earned the respect of the players and he is
one of the top Top Gun Playoff players of all time. |
